Skills and experience I qualified as a nurse in 1987. I am registered with the Nurses and Midwives Council. After working in a variety of mental health settings I became increasingly interested in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I returned to university in 1994 to study CBT. It was at that time that I established myself as an independent practitioner and began working with local GP’s. I now employ four therapists who work alongside me in primary care.
In 2001 I became interested in helping people who are effected by chronic painful conditions. Once a week I work with a multi-disciplinary pain management team at a local hospital. I provide 1:1 sessions and a group programme.
I am a strong advocate of continuing professional development and am currently studying Contextual CBT also known as ACT. Contextual CBT is a third wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I am finding it an extremely effective way of helping people with complex or chronic difficulties eg chronic pain or chronic anxiety state. I am registered with the Association for Contextual and Behavioural Science.
I have two clinical supervisors and also attend group clinical supervision.
I have always been a keen musician (albeit an amateur) since I was a child. I started playing the oboe aged 11 and in my early thirties I began playing the flute. I obtained a Dip Music in 2003. I combine my love of music with CBT and provide workshops for student and professional musicians who wish to enhance their musical performance or reduce performance anxiety.
